A short personal project to celebrate the first day of Spring. Recently I have been looking at developing a simple illustrative style that would allow me to explore my interest in animation and in particular the GIF culture that is ever so popular across all aspects of the web. I personally think GIFs are a fantastic format. The restrictions of communicating a simple or sometimes complex idea within a few seconds of animation really poses an interesting challenge from a graphic design perspective.
I initially started off with some quick sketches, before blocking out some rough forms in Modo by using mesh fusion and some simple primitives. I like this approach of using live booleans to block out shapes when designing. Once I had the shapes in place I quickly built a mesh suitable for animation and created a simple IK rig. It was a fun simple style to explore and I look forward to exploring further.
