Scene Breakdown (From left to right): Modelling, Lighting, Final image

This image was created for The Foundry's Christmas image competition using Modo & Photoshop. I wanted to create a piece with contrasting cold and warm colours, whilst at the same time retaining a painterly feel to the image. Modelling and sculpting the squirrel character at a low subdivison level allowed me to work with Modo's hair tools, while at the same time sculpting the form of the character; This allowed me make quick changes to the character without being destructive to the workflow.

Tileable displacement maps were modeled in Modo for the tree bark and the acorn texture, then applied onto the assets in the scene. Finally, lighting was a combination of a HDRI with a few additional area lights to highlight the form of the characters. This was a fun piece to make and allowed me use some of the compositional skills I learnt from an art course by a former Disney artist.

Software used: Modo, Photoshop
